She passed from this life in early November 2007. She was frugal with her money or the 6 of us children would not have enjoyed our earlier years as we did. Most of what I am I owe to her love and unselfishness. She went without so we could have. Maybe a lot of mothers sacrifice like this but Mom was quiet about it. She did not get pin money. Dad gave her his check and she was the comptroller, always paying the bills on time and the rest was carefully and frugally? is that a word- distributed to other causes using triage. Our father died suddenly at the age of 57 and there was a small annuity of $400.00 a month she received until she died. She augmented that by being on her knees and cleaning toilets, scrubbing floors, washing windows, and general housework for hire. She was one of those "Heroes" that live and die in small town and no one hears about them. My parents did not plan for retirement. In 2001 at the age of 55 my husband and I started not only over from horrible divorces, but also started a new business. It has been very successful and just this year have we started planning for retirment. This is the age that most baby boomers are or have retired. We will be working for a long time to come. I am so encourage that Cherith has had the vision to see the plight of the next generation of women, to understand it will be even harder for them to retire comfortablly or at all and that she is trying to get the message out. I was fortunate, a good man was Given to me . For those women who are out there and alone, just start a penny a day at first, but start putting something away for your future.
